NHS pay increase welcome news after eight years of austerity

Commenting on the pay increase agreed for NHS workers, Labour MP for Redcar Anna Turley said:

“This is welcome news for our NHS staff who have worked tirelessly to keep our health service running under massive strain.

“Eight years of austerity has taken its toll on the workforce with morale crashing through the floor as people have seen their pay packets worth less and less under pay freezes and the 1% pay cap.

“Staff and trade unions have been campaigning for a while to secure a pay boost and I am pleased the government have finally seen sense. It’s not perfect but it may go some way towards addressing the staffing shortages as people have understandably been turned off from pursuing a career with so much work for little reward.”

It’s about time my work was considered worthy of a pay rise by the government. However I feel a grieved that my work within mental health remains perceptively undervalued by the media. I as a mental health worker work just as hard as a general nurse however the media only perceives general nurses in its media campaigns.
