Two Teesside Labour representatives have called for urgent action to be taken following figures released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) that showed huge increases in long-term unemployment amongst women in the area.

Shocking ONS statistics show that since the Tory-Lib Dem Coalition formed in May 2010, in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland long-term unemployment amongst women has increased by 76%, whilst Redcar the figure is frighteningly almost double that at 136%.

Teesside Labour Candidates Anna Turley (Redcar) and Louise Baldock (Stockton South) have today written to Teesside's two Coalition MPs calling on them to back Labour's amendment to the Consumer Rights Bill, an amendment which would ban letting agent fees for tenants. The amendment will be debated on Tuesday in the House of Commons, after which Labour will call a vote.

Redcar’s Labour candidate Anna Turley today (18th April 2014) spoke out about the growing personal debt crisis gripping Britain as research shows 2 in 5 Brits struggle to make it to payday and that millions are now taking out payday loans and debt management plans to cope with the cost of living and debt repayment.
