This morning Labour’s candidate for Redcar Anna Turley went to see the construction of the £82m Hitachi site in Newton Aycliffe with Phil Wilson MP.
They took a tour of the site (the size of 6 football pitches) and discussed a number of issues such as apprenticeships, transport infrastructure, recruitment, terms and conditions, engagement with local schools and colleges.
Ultimately there will be 730 jobs created here, with 400 starting in 2016 with train production.
“It was a really good opportunity to visit a site which has brought train building back to our region. This site will have important knock-on opportunities across Teesside through the supply chain and directly in terms of jobs. There were already 50 jobs advertised at the recent Jobs fair at Redcar & Cleveland College. I want to make sure the people of Redcar and Teesside get to benefit from great global investment and developments like this.”
