Labour candidate for Redcar Anna Turley was joined by Labour’s Shadow Minister for Civil Society Lisa Nandy yesterday (21st August 2014) to meet with local young people as they refurbished the backyard of local charity Carers Together.

The young people are taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme in Redcar and Cleveland and have chosen the refurbishment as their social action project.

Anna said:
“These young people are great ambassadors for our area. They are breaking down negative stereotypes about people their age and showing they care about their local community and are willing to work hard to give something back. I’m so impressed with all they have achieved this summer.

Lisa Nandy commented:
“I was really impressed with the hard-work and dedication the young people showed. They’ve done a great job to support a local charity and shown pride in their local area.

“Unfortunately, youth services have been savaged under the Coalition Government, with one in three organisations that provide youth services facing closure. Today’s visit has highlighted the excellent contribution these groups make to our local community and it is essential that they are adequately funded.”
