“Northern rail upgrades are good news, and not before time” says Anna

Responding to the announcement today by the government that it intends to award the Northern franchise to Arriva Rail North Limited in a deal which includes replacing outdated Pacer trains, Labour MP for Redcar Anna Turley said:

“This is good news for rail users on Teesside. The package of improvements should significantly improve the experience for commuters and enhance transport links which benefit the local economy.

As anyone who has ever travelled on the Pacer trains will have experienced first-hand, local rail services have suffered from a lack of investment over many years and this upgrade is not before time. Teesside commuters have suffered long enough and we now need to ensure this investment materialises as soon as possible.”
